Opportunity Summary 

Applicant will be helping with instruction for middle school students in the classroom. Some duties will be: helping individual students learn the current class concept, teaching the class an assigned lesson under the supervision on the teacher, grading and providing feedback on student work, aiding in the lesson planning for the class assignments, managing a classroom of middle school students, working towards fostering a positive classroom atmosphere and meeting with the assigned teacher weekly to discuss progress and mentor opportunities.

Tasks:

One on one tutoring. Lesson planning with the classroom teacher. Grading student work. Giving classroom instruction with the teacher in the room while being observed by the lead administrator.

Training:

The student will begin by having a one on one instructional time with the lead administrator for the school. After this, the students will complete lesson observations with the different teachers at the school, completing a school created observation form. Each observation will be followed by an interview portion where the student will interview the observed teacher. The student will have one on one mentor meetings each week to discuss questions and opportunities for growth. The student will teach individual lessons throughout the internship that will be observed by the lead administrator. These will be followed by a meeting with administrator to provide feedback on the observations. The student will also participate in weekly staff meetings with the rest of the staff for training and problem solving growth.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to effectively manage a classroom of students using trained and learned strategies for classroom management. By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to assess students academic needs and tailor educational practices to meet their needs in a one on one setting. By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to effectively plan lessons scaffolded to meet the academic needs of each student in the classroom.
