Social Media and Marketing InternAt — Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley
Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Marketing Coordinator, the Social Media Marketing Intern will support efforts to build the Club’s brand and increase public awareness of programs, services, and events. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, and public relations, with a strong focus on social media, digital content, and community engagement. The intern will assist with creating, adapting, and distributing marketing materials while evaluating the effectiveness of strategies and campaigns.
Tasks:
During the internship, the Social Media Marketing Intern will complete the following tasks under the supervision of the Executive Director:
Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling content for social media platforms to promote Club programs, events, and initiatives
Draft captions, short-form stories, and basic graphic or video content aligned with brand standards
Support the development and maintenance of monthly and annual content calendars
Assist with email marketing campaigns, including drafting content, formatting newsletters, and tracking engagement metrics
Help update website content related to programs, events, and community impact
Collect photos, stories, and testimonials from staff and program activities for marketing use
Monitor social media engagement and compile basic analytics reports to evaluate campaign effectiveness
Assist with the creation and distribution of marketing and public relations materials, including flyers, presentations, and press releases
Collaborate with program staff and leadership to gather information and ensure accurate messaging
Support event promotion and on-site content capture when applicable
Participate in regular supervision meetings, feedback sessions, and professional development activities
Training:
During the internship placement, the intern will receive structured, hands-on training designed to build professional skills in social media marketing, nonprofit communications, and public relations. Training will include:

Orientation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley’s mission, programs, target audiences, and brand standards, including Boys & Girls Clubs of America marketing guidelines.
Social Media Strategy & Content Development
Instruction on developing content calendars, writing platform-specific copy, creating visual assets, and scheduling posts across multiple social media platforms to increase engagement and brand awareness.
Digital Marketing Tools & Platforms
Training on email marketing platforms (such as Constant Contact), basic website content management, and social media scheduling and analytics tools to track reach, engagement, and performance.
Analytics & Evaluation
Guidance on measuring campaign effectiveness using engagement metrics, email open rates, and social media insights, with support in interpreting data and making strategic recommendations for improvement.
Nonprofit Marketing & Public Relations Practices
Exposure to nonprofit-specific marketing strategies, including fundraising promotions, community outreach, event marketing, and public relations efforts such as press releases and community announcements.
Professional Communication & Collaboration
Ongoing mentorship in professional writing, editing, and verbal communication, as well as collaboration with program staff, leadership, and community partners to gather content and align messaging.
Project Management & Workplace Skills
Training in managing multiple deadlines, prioritizing tasks, working within budgets, and adhering to timelines while contributing to real campaigns and organizational goals.
Supervision & Feedback
Regular check-ins with the Executive Director and Marketing Coordinator to review progress, receive constructive feedback, reflect on learning outcomes, and set professional development goals.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to plan, create, and evaluate multi-platform social media and digital marketing campaigns that effectively increase brand awareness, community engagement, and program participation for a nonprofit organization, while adhering to national brand standards and professional communication practices.
