Opportunity Summary 

MBARI is a non-profit oceanographic research center advancing marine science and engineering to understand our changing ocean, located right here in Moss Landing.

    MBARI researchers conduct research on a variety of projects to better understand our changing ocean.  Scientists and engineers collaborate to build cutting-edge tools that are transforming how we observe, monitor, and interact with the ocean.

    CSUMB service learners have the unique opportunity to learn and study along side MBARI scientists, depending on student interest and MBARI mentor availability.  Learn more about the current projects here: https://www.mbari.org/our-work/projects/

    To inquire about an opportunity for mentorship & projects at MBARI, interested students need to:

    1. Review the list of current projects at MBARI to select one project that is most interesting and aligned with your skills and career aspirations.
    2. Determine your weekly availability (days and times).
    3. Prepare your cover letter and résumé/curriculum vitae (CV).  Make sure this is professional and proofread (meet with your Career Coach!).
    4. Obtain a copy or screenshot of your course syllabus, that includes the number of hours required and your instructor's contact info (name & email).

    MBARI will review your interest materials and see if staff have capacity to mentor a student.  Jessica Chapman will inform students either way, and what the next steps will need to be if moving forward.
