Social Work InternAt — Volunteers of America - Northern California and Northern Nevada -VoA-NCNN
The student will be placed at one of our programs and work alongside the program director and case manager to gain skills in working in direct client services. We have had many interns over the years who have been placed at various programs, including homeless shelters, transitional housing, veteran services and family services. Many have gone on to become employees with VOA after the internship is completed and they have graduated.
The students learn a multitude of things. Many have been able to take on one or two clients as a caseload directly while being guided by the program director. They also learn the bigger/more marco components of our work in the community and have attended outreach events. We have had some help conduct surveys and client input surveys. Our staff also learn a lot from the interns. It has been a very successful partnership.
They receive an general orientation along with the other interns. Most of the training is provided by the staff of the program they are in.
We do require a background check. The cost of the background check is covered by the program. We have monthly safety meetings and drills for staff. We do not require COVID vaccination.
