Teaching Assistant -Dr. T. BasilAt — CSUF - College of Humanities & Social Science
The Academic Intern will serve as a Teaching Assistant for Psychology 101, supporting the instructor in course development, student engagement, and assessment. The intern will research and implement educational technologies to facilitate group work and maintain academic integrity regarding Large Language Models (LLMs). Additionally, the intern will create a comprehensive \\TA Playbook\\ to document best practices and procedures for future assistants.
Learning Outcomes
Evaluate and implement educational technologies that enhance collaborative learning while addressing academic integrity challenges posed by AI tools.
Demonstrate effective pedagogical communication and student support skills by holding office hours and providing constructive feedback.
Analyze course structure and student performance to identify and communicate specific areas for curricular improvement.
Create professional technical documentation (TA Playbook) that serves as a sustainable resource for future academic support assistants.
Training
Provide weekly mentorship meetings to review grading standards, discuss pedagogical challenges, and refine the intern's teaching strategies.
Train the student on university grading rubrics, the Learning Management System (LMS), and academic integrity policies.
Guide the student’s research into educational software, offering feedback on the feasibility and appropriateness of proposed tech solutions.
Review and critique drafts of the TA Playbook to ensure clarity, accuracy, and professional utility.
Tasks/Duties
Assisting in the creation and refinement of course materials and lesson plans.
Holding regular office hours to mentor students and clarify course concepts.
Researching technology solutions that facilitate effective group work and limit unauthorized use of LLMs/AI.
Grading student assignments and exams, and providing feedback on their academic progress.
Drafting and finalizing a \\TA Playbook\\ that includes standard operating procedures, helpful notes, and resources for future TAs.
Reporting on course effectiveness and suggesting specific improvements during supervision meetings.
