Social Advocacy Coalition (formerly Students Against COVID) is a global, young professional led nonprofit initiative founded in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since its inception, the organization has engaged over 2,000 volunteers across 110+ countries and has facilitated hundreds of advocacy campaigns, research initiatives, educational projects, and community-based outreach efforts. The organization’s mission has expanded beyond pandemic response to include global health equity, mental health advocacy, human rights awareness, and community education through interdisciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration.

Position Overview
The Remote Global Health Volunteer Intern is a structured academic internship designed to provide experiential learning in global health advocacy, research dissemination, and community education. The intern participates in supervised, project-based work aligned with academic learning objectives rather than operational labor. The position emphasizes applied learning through research analysis, educational content creation, team leadership, and cross-cultural collaboration in a virtual environment.

Tasks:

\n

The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by:

\n

Developing a personalized internship work plan aligned with approved learning objectives and required academic hours.

\n

Conducting literature reviews or background research on a selected global health, social justice, or advocacy topic.

\n

Creating educational or advocacy materials such as presentations, infographics, social media graphics, short videos, or written content.

\n

Contributing to or co-leading a project team by helping organize tasks, facilitating collaboration, and supporting project execution.

\n

Participating in team meetings and contributing ideas, reflections, or analytical insights related to ongoing initiatives.

\n

Producing a final academic or reflective deliverable (e.g., written summary, presentation, or report) documenting learning outcomes achieved during the internship.

\n

Maintaining required weekly or bi-weekly hour logs and reflective documentation for academic credit verification.

\n

Training:

\n

To help the student achieve their learning outcomes, I will:

\n

Provide a structured orientation at the start of the internship outlining expectations, academic objectives, project options, and documentation requirements.

\n

Discuss with the intern at least bi-weekly virtually to review progress, discuss learning goals, and provide individualized guidance.

\n

Offer ongoing formative feedback on written, visual, or research-based work products to support skill development and academic rigor.

\n

Facilitate observational and experiential learning opportunities through participation in team meetings, campaign planning sessions, or research discussions.

\n

Guide the intern in reflective practice by reviewing weekly or bi-weekly work logs and helping the student connect practical activities to academic learning outcomes.

\n

Conduct a mid-point and final evaluation to assess progress toward learning objectives and provide constructive feedback for improvement.

\n

Learning Outcome:

\n

Critically evaluate primary and secondary research literature related to global health, public health policy, or social advocacy topics.

\n

Translate complex public health or social science concepts into accessible educational materials (e.g., infographics, presentations, or written briefs) for diverse audiences.

\n

Apply principles of health education, advocacy, or community engagement to design or support a structured outreach or awareness initiative.

\n

Demonstrate cross-cultural collaboration skills by contributing to or leading a multidisciplinary, international team.

\n

Develop foundational research or scholarly communication outputs, such as a literature summary, policy brief, blog post, or presentation suitable for academic or community dissemination.

\n

Reflect on ethical considerations, equity, and social responsibility within global health or advocacy-focused work.
