Organization Description

Salinas and the Salinas Valley are known as "The Salad Bowl of the World" for the production of lettuce, broccoli, mushrooms and strawberries along with numerous other crops. The climate is also ideal for the floral industry and grape vineyards planted by world-famous vintners.

City of Salinas is the Fiscal Agent for departments, programs, and projects working under the umbrella of City of Salinas.

Program Information

City of Salinas Community Development Department functions include planning, permitting, management of federal funding, housing production, code enforcement, and business development. 

There are six divisions in the Department:

Permit Services

This field placement will be within the Housing & Community Development Department assisting with the administration of grants allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, California Department of Housing & Community Development and other Housing resource funding. Grants managed include:  Community Development Block grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG), Encampment Resolution Fund (ERF), and Family Homeless Challenge Fund (FHC)

Key Responsibilities:

Rental Stabilization Ordinance /Rental Registry Financial Assistance Program

Support landlord coordination, referrals to contracted partners ECHO Housing, and processing of rental assistance payments in New World system.

Grant Management Support

Assist with oversight of a small HCD ESG contract ($54,000) with Community Homeless Solutions for Rapid Rehousing.

Support HMIS setup, expectation training, activity/expense review, and payment clearance.

Homeless Services Operations Support

Assist with supply coordination, agenda development, and meeting logistics for Homeless Services Team operations and other projects within the department that foster professional development experience in public administration.
