Woodland Community College, Yuba Community College District
Woodland Community College (WCC) is committed to empowering students through equitable access to education, career pathways, and lifelong learning, serving as a catalyst for community and economic development. Through this Agreement, a CSU Sacramento Intern will support two WCC programs: Youth Empowerment Strategies for Success–Independent Living Program (YESS-ILP) and Foster & Kinship Care Education (FKCE). YESS-ILP serves current and former foster youth ages 14–21 by providing life skills training, educational and career support, housing and financial literacy assistance, and strong campus and community connections to support successful transitions to independence. FKCE empowers foster, kinship, and adoptive caregivers through trauma-informed education, resources, and peer support to meet the complex needs of children in out-of-home care. Together, these programs promote student success, family stability, and community well-being through collaboration, equity, and strengths-based support.
To work, intern, or volunteer within our Foster & Kinship Care Education and Independent Living Programs, we require a background clearance (fingerprinting/livescan and driving record). A Livescan is provided for us by Yolo County Health and Human Services and is paid for by our program. We are not able to provide transportation, as such request that any student intern have a vehicle or transportation available for getting to and from Woodland Community College, as scheduled for their time spent on campus.
Our YESS Independent Living Program is focused on Transitional Age Foster Youth, those 14 to 21 years old that are, or have been part of the Yolo County Child Welfare Dependency System. At no time will the CSU Sacramento State Intern be interacting or working one-on-one with youth; at all our classes there is a team attending which includes Woodland Community College faculty, educational experts, and a social worker.
The FKCE / ILP office is on the Woodland Community College campus, in the Administrative Building 100. There is campus security on site, health and safety posters and procedures in each room of the building, and during all business hours, there are classified and administrative staff in various offices throughout the building. We are also located very close to our ample parking lots.
