Communications and Marketing AssistantAt — Type Eighteen Books

Opportunity Summary 

Assist in the day-to-day operations of a publishing company, including but not limited to: communications, sales and marketing, promotional planning, social media, administrative tasks, record-keeping and goal-setting, and book discovery. 

Tasks:

The intern will assist with our communications via an extensive email list and periodic mailings. They will build lists from this master list for various initiatives and mailings. The intern will learn about our marketing and promotional efforts and assist in a variety of ways, such as compiling and working with Excel spreadsheets, sending emailed inquiries and making phone calls, creating graphics and other visual components for outreach as well as social media. The intern may be asked to aid in the discovery and development of new projects, by conducting market research and seeking opportunities for both marketing and promotion. Any communications initiated by the intern will undergo a process of editing and guidance from senior employees.

Training:

The intern will be in close contact with the publisher and the marketing director on all assigned tasks. Regular Zoom and in-person training will be conducted as new tasks are assigned. Weekly mentoring will be scheduled, also remotely and in person. After an initial orientation and planning meeting, the intern's workload will be continually assessed, and they will learn through working with teammates and through the completion of tasks independently.

Learning Outcome:

After the internship the student will be able to conduct the following:

- understand the complete process of publishing, including discovery, production and distribution
- gain knowledge of the promotion and marketing side of the business through communications, publicity, and outreach
- learn efficient work practices, team allocation of tasks, and coordination of efforts
