Opportunity Summary 

This internship supports a Psychology student in gaining hands-on experience with instructional support, student assessment, and teaching-related activities in a college-level course. Under faculty supervision, the intern will assist with grading-related tasks, help develop and facilitate in-class activities, and work with student feedback and quiz data to better understand where students are struggling with course material. Over the course of the semester, the intern will also develop and deliver one supervised lecture, with guidance and feedback provided throughout the planning process. The position is designed to give the student practical experience with teaching, assessment, and reflective discussion about student learning in higher education.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Assist with grading tasks while discussing grading decisions and consistency with a faculty supervisor.
    2. Help design and facilitate in-class activities that support student understanding of course concepts.
    3. Collect and analyze basic student feedback and quiz data to identify common areas of difficulty.
    4. Develop and deliver a supervised lecture with guidance from a faculty mentor.

Training

  1. Provide guidance and feedback on grading decisions and patterns observed in student work.
    2. Review and discuss in-class activities before the intern assists with or leads them.
    3. Work with the intern to plan, structure, and revise a lecture prior to delivery.

Tasks/Duties

  1. Assisting with grading and reviewing student quiz and assignment results.
    2. Identifying common trends or problem areas in student performance and discussing them with the supervisor.
    3. Helping create and revise in-class activities used during lectures.
    4. Assisting with and leading selected in-class activities under supervision.
    5. Planning, preparing, and delivering one supervised lecture with faculty guidance.
    6. Collecting student feedback, analyzing results, and sharing summaries with the supervisor.
