Organization Description

The California Center for Civic Participation is a non-profit civic education organization that engages young people by sparking their interest with exposure to real excitement of the democratic process. In addition to making informed decisions on today’s issues, youth gain the skills, tools, and resources to thoughtfully assess the questions of tomorrow. Our approach to civic participation centers youth voices, demystifies the civic process, and equips and connects youth with opportunities to create impactful change in their communities. Young people leave our programs more motivated, better informed, and ready to take meaningful civic action in their everyday lives.

Program Information

Skills and abilitues needed: strong communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to collaborate with a diverse team and community partners. Willingness to learn, rework, and improve projects as needed. Fluency in a second language (Spanish or Hmong preferred) is a plus. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, etc.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to analyze CalCenter’s mission and help create bold, actionable goals, timelines, and strategies.
- Propose and implement change-making strategies that center the voices of youth — especially first-
generation, low-income, immigrant, justice-impacted, and racially/ethnically marginalized communities.
- Contribute to political education, justice, organizing, and civic advocacy initiatives.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
-Help design youth volunteer opportunities, leadership cohorts, and statewide campaigns. Brainstorm,plan, and lead projects that move CalCenter’s mission forward.
- Represent CalCenter at events, public meetings, and collaborative campaigns, adding a youth
perspective to every space.
