Opportunity Summary 

The YMCA of Orange County Program supports and delivers community-based programs focused on improving physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life for individuals and families. This role involves planning, organizing, and leading activities such as fitness classes, youth development programs, health education workshops, and community outreach initiatives.

Tasks:

YMCA of Orange County instructors are responsible for planning and leading safe, engaging, and inclusive fitness, wellness, and recreational activities for participants of all ages and ability levels. They instruct classes such as group exercise, sports, or youth programs while promoting proper technique, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle habits. Instructors monitor participant safety, provide encouragement, and adapt activities to meet individual needs. They also help create a welcoming environment that supports mental and social well-being, communicate program goals clearly, and collaborate with other staff to support the YMCA’s mission of improving individual and community health.

Training:

Training for a YMCA of Orange County Program includes an orientation to the YMCA’s mission and values, with an emphasis on inclusion, community engagement, and promoting health for diverse populations. Staff receive health and wellness training focused on safe physical activity, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle education, along with instruction in basic public health principles such as disease prevention, health equity, and the social determinants of health. The training also covers safety and risk management, including CPR, First Aid, and emergency response procedures. In addition, employees are trained in program leadership, planning, and evaluation to ensure programs are effective and contribute positively to individual and community health outcomes.

Learning Outcome:
