Opportunity Summary 

Student will be working alongside lead teacher in an Early Head Start classroom, childcare partnership program. Important component of the partnership includes ensuring that the educational services the Mt. Sac Child Development Center (CDC) provides meets and or exceeds the rigorous Head Start performance standards set forth by Federal mandates, which are accomplished through the partnership with Baldwin Park Unified School District.  

Tasks:

Under supervision of the lead teacher, hands on training, coaching in the moment, facilitating interactions alongside student, the student will participate in daily engagement of classroom needs, daily routines and activities mentioned below.
Student will learn how to create a welcoming environment for children and families focusing on routines and social emotional development for youngest learners (Infant/Toddler classroom: 12 months- 24 months) while advocating for families & children regardless of abilities.
Student will foster a sense of belonging valuing culture, language, and varying abilities.
Student will learn to listen, observe, and document critical information to support planning for various age-appropriate, developmentally appropriate activities implementing modifications and adaptations to serve all the children.
Student will engage in hands on learning to advocate for all the children and families in the classroom.
She will practice adjusting to new situations and make sound decisions and communicate with lead teacher, staff and administration when assistance is needed or delegated.

Training:

Lead teacher will provide general orientation of the expectations and daily flow of the routine. Student will receive ongoing resources and strategies to implement throughout the course. General information and handouts will be provided about EHS and how the partnership works with Mt. Sac. overview of expectations for the classroom. An overview and information of inclusion, equity and diversity will be covered with the student.
Student will be introduced to the Creative Curriculum how it is that we create connection and create a welcoming environment for children and families focusing on routines and social emotional development for youngest learners (Infant/Toddler classroom: 12 months- 24 months). Teacher will provide in class trainings and monthly meetings to address specific classroom needs handouts will be provided. to identify and share important factors observations and of documentation for the purposes having a baseline and addressing development with families including concerns with development. Lead teacher will explain and provide information about Early Start Program, Paperwork IFSP & IEP's, Disabilities support through BPUSD, the various ways to refer a child for services, process of setting up services at our center to have collaboration from outside agencies and therapists to provide services at the CDC. Student will be provided with information and examples of how to advocate for families & children individualized needs.
Student will be provided with information and handouts for fostering a sense of belonging valuing culture, language, and varying abilities.
Lead Teacher will be available to answer and support students with all their questions through course.

Learning Outcome:

1. Student will learn to lead the classroom using increased leadership skills to guide peers/paraprofessionals to support daily flow of routine in an increasing inclusive setting.
2. The student will gain a greater understanding of special needs and inclusive environments.
3. Student will understand the importance of building partnerships with parents, meeting family needs based on where they are and supporting they growth and advocacy.
4. Student will be able to use best practices (working in collaboration with parent, outside agencies, therapists, & administration) to support all children including those with delays and or disabilities.
5. Student will learn how to facilitate small and large activities providing accommodations and modifications while supporting and maximizing all children's learning.
