InstructorAt — MDH Network
Provides instruction and assistance to adult Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and works with their circle of support to ensure that the Individuals can develop and/or maintain their own homes, as well as set their routines.
Tasks:
Work directly with Individuals to provide support in remediation of severe behaviors that are endangering current placement. Establish a trusting and caring relationship with the Individuals and those working with them. Work cooperatively with the Individuals, authorized representatives, and members of the participants’ circle of support to ensure Individuals develop a safe and healthy home regardless of their disability. Report any incidents as required of a Mandated Reporter immediately and reports special incidents as they occur and provides information for required reports. Ensure that all required documentation is completed accurately and timely. Utilize person-centered communications skills to help the participants to identify what is important to and for them. Advocate for the Individuals’ Rights while reminding them of their Responsibilities.
Training:
General employer orientation and onboarding, company-sponsored Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, company-sponsored Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certificate, Direct Support Professional (DSP) training as coordinated by the company, on-the-job training.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to familiarizes themselves with the participants’ Person-Centered Plans (IPPs) and Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and goals to ensure understanding and adherence, provide training and habilitation for the Individuals to fulfill the health and safety requirements which are specific to the needs of the Individuals, and communicate effectively through verbal and written skills with different agencies and the general public.
