Veterinary Assistant/TechnicianAt — Shadowridge Veterinary Hospital
Observe Medical procedures. Assist boarding, nursing and Drs with treatments. Learn how to monitor anesthetized patients. Running in house lab work ( blood, urine, fecals, and cytologies). Learn basics in animal husbandry and medical care.
Will be able to restrain animals for treatments ( injections, obtaining lab samples: blood, fecal, skin cytologies, IV catheter placement). Assist in inducing patients for an anesthetic procedure/surgery, prepping patient for procedure, monitoring anesthetized patients, pulling up vaccines and administering. Have basics in animal husbandry, walking, feeding/water, cleaning, administering topical or oral medications.
Assisting in monitoring pets under anesthesia, restraining patients (felines and canines) for blood draws, administering injections, basics in animal husbandry/medical care. Minimum is 80 hours for basics to 6-8 weeks for more in-depth learning.
Students will be required to lift up to 40 lbs on their own. Standing long term. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to potential exposure to anesthetic gases. May be exposed to sharps (needles/syringes). Can be loud due to barking/howling dogs.
