Occupational Therapy InternAt — The Sensory Brain
We are a sensory integration occupational therapy healthcare facility that provides in-home and in-clinic occupational therapy services.
Tasks:
Clinical Exposure & Support
Observe evaluations and treatment sessions across age groups and service settings (clinic, groups, in-home/school as appropriate)
Assist with session setup, breakdown, and organization of therapy spaces
Support therapists during sessions by modeling, prompting, or engaging children under direct supervision
Practice basic rapport-building and co-regulation strategies with children
Learn and apply sensory regulation strategies (movement breaks, heavy work, environmental supports)
Program & Group Support
Assist with preparation and implementation of small group activities (e.g., social skills groups, playgroups)
Help track group attendance and participation under supervision
Support transitions, routines, and group flow to promote engagement and safety
Documentation & Learning
Observe clinical documentation processes (SOAP notes, goals, progress tracking)
Assist with non-clinical data collection (attendance logs, materials prep lists, outcome tracking tools)
Participate in case discussions, team check-ins, or informal clinical debriefs (as appropriate)
Administrative & Operations Support:
Help organize therapy materials, toys, and sensory equipment
Assist with creating or updating visual schedules, charts, and session materials
Support front-office or clinic operations tasks as assigned (scanning, filing, prep work)
Professional Development:
Attend staff meetings, trainings, or in-services when available
Learn about pediatric OT career paths, ethical standards, and HIPAA compliance
Receive mentorship, feedback, and guidance from supervising clinicians
Special Projects (as appropriate):
Assist with research, resource gathering, or development of parent-friendly materials
Help with clinic organization projects or seasonal program prep
Support marketing or outreach projects (e.g., assembling packets, organizing events)
Training:
job shadowing, social skills training, behavioral mgt training, and biweekly to weekly mentorship meetings
Learning Outcome:
-speak on what pediatric occupational therapy entails both for individual and group structures
- improve their client facing professionalism and behavioral management
-familiarize themselves with neurodiverse children, their families, and the types of services they are looking for
