CSUSM University Library Teaching & Learning InternAt — CSUSM University Library
This internship will introduce students to academic librarianship, specifically around teaching and learning of college students' information literacy. The academic library is the center of any university and provides a space for students to engage in self-directed learning through the research process. Teaching and learning librarians support students throughout this endeavor: interpreting assignment, creating a research strategy, finding appropriate and relevant sources, and attributing sources.
Students will gain foundational knowledge about librarianship, the value of the library on a college campus, and the importance of information literacy in the 21st century. Students will learn about the variety of jobs available in an academic library. Students will have hands-on experience in an information literacy classroom, the reference desk, and outreach events; and participate in a project benefiting college students' research skills. Students will build skills in written and oral communication, collaboration and teamwork, and public speaking.
There is no additional training to complete prior to the beginning of the internship.
Student should submit a resume and a short statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs), including why they are interested in this internship and what they hope to learn.
