Teacher Assistant InternAt — Sunflower Montessori

The Assistant Preschool Teacher Intern will support the lead Montessori teachers in a mixed-age classroom serving young children. The intern will gain hands-on experience in early childhood education, classroom management, Montessori materials, and child development while working in a supportive, professional school environment. This academic internship is designed to provide meaningful, pre-professional experience aligned with early childhood education standards.

Tasks:

Assist lead teachers during classroom lessons and activities

Support children with daily routines, transitions, and independent work

Prepare and organize Montessori materials and classroom environment

Observe children and assist with documentation and developmental notes

Support small-group and individual learning activities

Help maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment

Model respectful communication and positive behavior guidance

Participate in team meetings and professional development as appropriate

Training:

Ongoing mentorship from the Lead Teacher and Site Supervisor

Regular check-ins and feedback provided weekly to review progress and learning goals

Observation opportunities followed by guided reflection and discussion

Hands-on training with Montessori materials and classroom procedures

Learning Outcome:

Support children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development

Assist with classroom management and positive guidance strategies

Observe and document child development and learning progress

Collaborate professionally with lead teachers and school staff

Apply developmentally appropriate practices in a real classroom setting
