Social Media InternAt — The Oasis Magazine

Opportunity Summary

Oasis Magazine is seeking a motivated and creative Social Media Intern to support our digital and editorial efforts through short-form video editing and behind-the-scenes content creation. This internship is designed as a hands-on learning opportunity for students interested in journalism, media communications, social media, and creative production.

The intern will work closely with the Media Director, and Editor-in-Chief/Publisher, gaining real-world experience in editorial workflows, brand storytelling, and community-focused media production.

This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility to work remotely with occasional in-office days and on-site coverage for events, photoshoots, and activations.

Tasks:

Students placed with Oasis Magazine will perform professional and pre-professional duties that align with learning outcomes in media production, journalism, and communications. The majority of the student’s responsibilities involve editing and producing short-form video content for social media platforms using industry-standard software, including Adobe Creative Cloud. Students will apply brand guidelines, editorial standards, and storytelling principles to produce publishable content intended for public distribution.

Students will assist in capturing behind-the-scenes video and photo assets during photoshoots, events, and community outreach activations, gaining hands-on experience in on-set production practices, media etiquette, and collaborative workflows. They will organize, label, export, and manage digital assets for editorial use, demonstrating proficiency in production workflows and file management systems.

Students will collaborate with professional staff and contributors, including the Media Director, Editor-in-Chief/Publisher, CFO, photographers, videographers, editors, ambassadors, and models. Through this collaboration, students will practice professional communication, time management, and project coordination within a working media organization. Students will also participate in editorial discussions and receive structured feedback, using critique to revise and refine work to meet professional publishing standards.

In addition, students will track hours using Clockify and submit weekly reports in compliance with university requirements, reinforcing professional accountability and workplace documentation practices. Students are expected to communicate proactively with supervisors regarding project challenges, deadlines, or constraints, demonstrating professional judgment and responsibility.

These duties are designed to mirror entry-level professional roles in digital media and communications and provide students with opportunities to build technical skills, editorial judgment, portfolio-ready work, and professional networks. The scope, complexity, and public-facing nature of the work ensure that more than eighty percent of assigned duties are professional or pre-professional in nature and appropriate for the awarding of academic credit.

Training:

Students placed with Oasis Magazine will receive structured, hands-on training designed to support defined learning outcomes and professional development. At the start of the placement, students will participate in a mandatory general orientation led by the Media Director. This orientation introduces the organization’s mission, editorial standards, brand guidelines, communication protocols, software tools, and expectations for professionalism, confidentiality, and time tracking.

Throughout the internship, students receive ongoing mentorship and guided instruction. This includes regular one-on-one check-ins with the Media Director to review assignments, provide feedback, and discuss progress. Students are given context for each task before execution, ensuring they understand how their work fits into broader editorial, journalistic, and communication goals. Training includes hands-on instruction with Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Suite, and other production tools as needed, as well as exposure to industry workflows through job shadowing during photoshoots, events, and community outreach activations.

Students are provided with work samples and brand-aligned references to guide expectations and are given iterative feedback to support skill development and revision. A formal midterm evaluation meeting is held with the Media Director to assess learning progress, adapt responsibilities if needed, and ensure continued alignment with academic requirements. Training is supported by written resources and real-world production environments, allowing students to build technical skills, editorial judgment, communication skills, and portfolio-ready work under professional supervision.
