Hideout Fitness is seeking driven, coachable university students for a hands-on internship in strength training and performance coaching. This role is designed for students pursuing degrees in kinesiology, exercise science, athletic training, or related fields who want real-world experience in a professional training environment.
Responsibilities

Tasks:
Primary Duties Include:
Assisting in and observing personal and semi-private training sessions, focusing on coaching cues, exercise execution, and session flow
Conducting supervised movement assessments and identifying mobility limitations, compensations, and technique errors
Assisting with the design, modification, and progression of individualized strength training programs based on client goals and assessments
Applying biomechanics and exercise science principles to evaluate exercise selection and load management
Communicating with clients in a professional manner, including exercise explanations, feedback, and adherence support
Tracking client progress through performance metrics, session notes, and program updates
Participating in mentorship meetings, workshops, and applied learning discussions
Supporting daily training operations as they relate to client safety, professionalism, and coaching efficiency
Training:
Students will receive a structured onboarding and ongoing training experience designed to support hands-on learning and professional development.
Training includes an initial general orientation, covering facility policies, safety procedures, professional expectations, and an overview of Hideout Fitness’ coaching philosophy and training systems.
Throughout the internship, students will participate in job shadowing with experienced coaches during personal and semi-private training sessions to observe real-time coaching, movement cueing, and client interaction. As competency increases, interns will be gradually integrated into supervised coaching responsibilities.
Students will engage in weekly scheduled one-on-one or small-group mentorship sessions, focused on biomechanics, exercise selection, program design, and case-based learning using real client scenarios.
Additional training includes:
Hands-on workshops and skills training in movement assessment, foundational lifts, and corrective strategies
Review and discussion of training literature and applied exercise science concepts
Exposure to program templates, progress tracking systems, and client documentation
Ongoing feedback and performance evaluations to reinforce learning and professional growth
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
Design and modify evidence-based strength training programs based on client goals, movement assessments, and individual limitations.
Demonstrate proper coaching techniques and movement cueing for foundational and advanced resistance training exercises.
Apply principles of biomechanics and exercise science to assess movement quality, identify compensations, and recommend corrective strategies.
Communicate professionally with clients and coaching staff, including explaining exercises, providing feedback, and supporting client adherence.
Operate effectively in a professional fitness environment, understanding session flow, client management, safety standards, and gym operations.
