Veterinary Technician/Assistant InternAt — SoCal Pet Vets

Opportunity Summary 

This internship is for those students who are seeking careers in veterinary technology. It is an opportunity for hands on learning and experience before entering the field and taking the VTNE exam.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will have learned various day to day veterinary technical skills. Students will have learned proper holding and restraint, how to administer different medications and injections through various routes, how to take patient vitals, client communication, how to monitor a patient under sedation/anesthesia, how to place an IV catheter, how to take various samples and operate diagnostic machinery, and overall animal behavior and health.

Opportunity Training 

Students will spend some time shadowing other technicians and assistants to understand hospital workflow, rules, and procedures. Demonstrations on various aspects of day to day tasks such as how to take patient history, general client communication, how to administer medications through various routes, proper techniques for various procedures, etc. Students will demonstrate an understanding of these duties before performing them.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students may be working with aggressive animals. Students may be working with animals who could be carrying zoonotic diseases. Students may be working with hazardous materials. All training, PPE, etc., will be provided before any such occurrences.
