Opportunity Summary

With Walkers Wildlands as a small business focused on plant propagation, we need help expanding our online presence! But our social media posts need to contain real science backed info for people and not just advertising! Making posts will include biological and horticultural research. Learning about the local environment and the species that call it home is most of the job! We will also introduce you to local plant species and the nursery site so you can see all sides of the operation! We grow native plants, including threatened and endangered species, and want to get more of them out into San Diego County, so help us spread the word!

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Students should acquire a knowledge of local native plant species, plant communities of southern California and the threats to them currently from climate change, development and invasive species. They should also gain some knowledge about how to grow and care for these plants, as well as the fundamentals of habitat restoration. Hopefully they will also develop an appreciation of the unique biodiversity hotspot we are in, in San Diego, and some meaningful ways we can help to maintain and restore it.

Opportunity Training

Plant identification techniques and nomenclature will be essential training. May also require basic photography training.
