Program InternAt — Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation (VACF)

Opportunity Summary 

The Program Assistant is an unpaid internship position at a small, grassroots nonprofit organization.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the intern will participate in writing grants and reports, conducting literature review and best practices for meeting the health needs of the community, coordinating and implementing community-wide health programs, providing administrative support, and other assigned duties, as necessary.

Students will learn and get experience with:
1. Writing grants
2. Coordinating & executing community-wide health programs
3. Planning & executing fundraising events
4. Office management
5. Patient navigation

During the internship, students may be required to:
1. Research community-based needs and assessment for program development.
2. Identify and write potential grant proposals to continue funding community program.
3. Follow-up with clients regarding information, events, or program compliance.
4. Observe and participate in community outreach and educational events.

Training:

Throughout the internship training, students will be required to:
1. Attend a comprehensive orientation on community needs and program resources.
2. Review assigned texts and other manuscripts detailing program resources and community issues.
3. Receive daily feedback from supervisor and on an as-needed basis.
4. Attend thematic workshops throughout the year, as assigned.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the internship, students will be able to:
1. Competently serve the Vietnamese community and address essential needs.
2. Research and identify community-based needs for program development.
3. Locate grant RFPs and submit successful grant proposals.
