Training & Supervision Structure

Interns at MVFT receive structured training designed to support their academic learning objectives, professional development, and ethical growth within a group private practice setting.

Supervisor Training & Support

  • Each intern is assigned to a licensed mental health professional (LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC) who serves as their primary supervisor and rotation may take place depending on the situation.
  • Inters may join weekly one-on-one supervision meetings focused on learning goals, professional development, case conceptualization (as appropriate), and progress toward academic outcomes with a couple of our practice clinical supervisors.
  • Supervision and mentorship may rotate among licensed professionals to expose interns to diverse clinical perspectives and professional styles.

Orientation & Mandatory Training ( this can be done as an oppurtunity to gain clinical and practice insight)

  • Interns participate in a structured orientation and onboarding process, which includes:
    • Overview of MVFT’s mission, values, and group practice structure
    • Review of policies, procedures, and professional expectations
    • Training on documentation standards, confidentiality (HIPAA), and ethical guidelines
    • Safety procedures, crisis protocols, and escalation processes
    • Staff meetings involvement

Job Shadowing & Observational Learning

  • Interns engage in job shadowing opportunities with licensed clinicians and administrative staff, which may include:
    • Observing client sessions (with appropriate consent)
    • Observing intake, assessment, and scheduling processes
    • Learning documentation practices through guided review

  • Observational learning is paired with reflective discussion during supervision to support learning integration.

  • Licensed supervisors provide guidance appropriate to the intern’s academic level while ensuring ethical and professional standards.

Group Practice Maintenance & Administrative Support

  • Interns assist with maintenance of the group practice, gaining exposure to non-clinical aspects of mental health operations, including:
    • Administrative support tasks
    • Office organization and workflow support
    • Assisting with operational projects as appropriate

  • These responsibilities are educational in nature and aligned with learning objectives.

Social Media & Event Support

  • Interns may assist with:
    • Social media support and content preparation (non-clinical)
    • Community outreach initiatives
    • Event preparation and support for workshops or practice events

  • These activities are supervised and rotate among licensed professionals and administrative leadership to provide a well-rounded learning experience.
