Montessori Classroom InternAt — Bella Montessori
The Montessori Classroom Intern supports the lead and assistant teachers in a prepared Montessori environment serving children from infancy through preschool. This role is designed for college students pursuing education, child development, psychology, or a related field who are seeking hands-on experience in an authentic early childhood setting.
The intern will observe classroom practices, assist with daily routines, support children’s independence, and help maintain a calm, organized, and respectful learning environment. Under the guidance of experienced Montessori educators, the intern will gain exposure to Montessori philosophy, classroom management, child development, and professional expectations in a licensed preschool setting.
Tasks:
The intern will be invited to help plan the curriculum based on the children's emerging needs and interests. To prepare for this she must take notes/ jot down observations of each child- what the child likes, doesn't like, needs and interests. The intern will participate in hands on tasks such as direct supervision of children through out the day, facilitating snack time, Circle Times, assessments and diaper time, etc. while keeping up with regulations and protocols set fort by our school and Licensing.
Training:
The student will participate in an orientation to discuss duties and expecations. The training will also include weekly check-ins to go over highlights from the week: what worked, what didn't work and brainstorm ideas on how to improve the intern's performance and overall flow of the classroom. The intern will shadow the Lead Teacher and observe how they facilitate routines and activities.
Learning Outcome:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of Montessori principles in practice by supporting a prepared environment, respecting children’s independence, and using observation rather than constant intervention.
2. Effectively support classroom routines and child interactions by assisting with transitions, work time, meals, outdoor play, and social-emotional guidance in a calm and developmentally appropriate manner.
3. Apply foundational knowledge of child development and professionalism by communicating respectfully with staff, maintaining confidentiality, following licensing and safety protocols, and reflecting on observations to improve practice.
