Organization Description

For over 48 years, DAYS Long Beach has served low-income, under-served youth and families in the Long Beach area. We provide youth with opportunities to grow academically and personally through educational, leadership and character development programs. Our services allow students to practice skills they have learned in the classroom, increase their desire to learn, and build positive relationships within the community. Through our extensive partnerships and collaborations, DAYS Long Beach is able to offer numerous services that effect the daily lives of the youth and their families. DAYS Long Beach provides programming in the following three areas: Youth Education and Development, Leadership and Academic Success and Parent and Family Support. All of our programs are made accessible through transportation assistance, language support and translation, and by remaining free of charge for all participants.

Program Information

A collaborative partnership with DAYS Long Beach and its role in the City of Long Beach Safe Passages Initiative, a network of community organizations working with local schools to support safe routes for students. A primary focus is on DAYS Long Beach’s implementation of the Safe Passages Community Ambassador Program (CAP) and the successes and challenges involved in community-based school safety work. Using both in-person and digital ethnographic methods, students examine the program’s goals, history, everyday practices, and relationships with schools, families, and neighborhood groups. Through this work, students learn ethnography as a collaborative research practice aimed at strengthening community organizations’ capacity to document, assess, and sustain their efforts.
