Emerging Community Leader (ECL)At — Breathe California of the Bay Area, Golden Gate, and Central Coast
The Emerging Community Leaders (ECL) Program engages students in community-driven environmental health work focused on air quality issues and health equity. Participants will help implement the Community Action Model to identify local environmental concerns, conduct community needs assessments, gather ad analyze data, and support policy efforts that improve environmental conditions. The ECL program emphasizes professional development, community organizing, and outreach in diverse and underrepresented communities.
Leadership and Community Organizing- facilitating meetings, recruiting stakeholders, and mobilizing community members Research and Data Analysis- conducting needs assessments, collecting community data, and interpreting findings Communication and Public Speaking- gained through outreach, presentations, and engagement via tabling events Cultural competence and Interpersonal Skills- working directly with residents from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds Policy Advocacy Experience- by contributing to the design and implementation of local policy initiatives targeting environmental inequities
Mandatory workshops and trainings facilitated by the project coordinator covering community outreach, assessment tool usage, engagement techniques, data collection and interpretation, and leadership.
