Opportunity Summary 

•Power of You(th) Programs
Objective: teaching middle school and high school age students to be agents of change in the prevention of underage drinking.
Description: Presenting Power of You(th) program to students, attending health fairs on behalf of MADD, participating in local underage drinking prevention campaigns during key times of the year (prom, graduation, spring break, Red Ribbon Week)
Requirements: completion of MADD orientation and Power of You(th) facilitator training, ability to communicate effectively, comfortable with public speaking, reliable transportation and flexibility (day/night/weekend classes), 10 total presentations required
• Time Commitment: approximately 1 hour per presentation (10 hours total)

Victim Impact Panel-
Objective: Educate participants on the dangers of impaired driving and motivate them to make responsible decisions about drinking and driving in the future.
Description: assists with registration and paperwork associated with VIP.
Requirements: completion of MADD orientation, good organizational skills, ability to communicate in a non-judgmental, effective manner when working with offenders, reliable transportation ability to handle and set up equipment necessary, and flexible schedule as panels are held in the evenings.
• Time Commitment: 2 hours per panel (only 1 required)

Special Events-
Objective: to increase MADD’s presence in the public through high profile community events like Annual Awards of Excellence and Move with MADD fundraiser, as well as low profile community events like health fairs, holiday fairs, and street fairs.
Description: assists with planning, organizing, and implementing special events, manning tables, outreach for securing donations (both financial and in-kind)
Requirements: Complete MADD orientation, good organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively, reliable transportation, and comfortable working with others.
• Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per event and as needed planning hours.

Attending meetings with Program Specialist or Manager as needed
• Administrative tasks as needed
• Organizing and Asset Inventory
• Community Outreach
• Effectively communicate with MADD team members

Tasks:

Court Monitoring-
• Objective: ensures that drunk driving cases are handled consistently and swiftly, that victims are treated appropriately and their rights are upheld during court proceedings.
• Description: attends DWI hearings, enters data in computer and updates files
• learning objective: good listening skills, completion of MADD orientation and Court Monitoring training, daytime availability, ability to communicate in a non-judgmental, effective manner when working with offenders, reliable transportation and computer/data entry skills.

Victim Impact Panel-
• Objective: Educate participants on the dangers of impaired driving and motivate them to make responsible decisions about drinking and driving in the future.
• Learning objective: assists with registration and paperwork associated with VIP.

Training:

Weekly Training session with Program Specialists and additional MADD staff to ensure learning objective are met.

Virtual training sessions to assist with underage substance prevention campaign and projects.

Job shadowing with MADD staff in Victim Services, prevention Educational Programs, and Victim Impact Panels.

Learning Outcome:

1) teaching middle school and high school age students to be agents of change in the prevention of underage drinking.

2) Educate participants on the dangers of impaired driving and motivate them to make responsible decisions about drinking and driving in the future.
