The intern(s) will be familiarized with industry standards, including IPC-A-610,
“Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies,” as well as various IPC-TM-650 related test methods and joint standards (“J-standards”) for solderability testing, moisture sensitive component handling, etc. Additionally, interns will be familiarized with overall electronic assembly operations, including surface mount “SMT” and pin-through-hole “PTH” solder processes, x-ray inspection techniques, automated optical inspection (AOI), as well as visual inspection to IPC standards.
Duties:
Interns will have the ability to perform electrical and/or functional testing of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for products that are used in biomedical research or other industrial applications.
Timeframe:
Ideally last through an entire semester (or two, if desired).
Qualifications:
Interns should be interested and motivated to learn about electronics assembly and testing, and reliably show up on-time and ready to learn and to do work. We welcome interns of diverse backgrounds and interests. Good written and oral communication skills in English are desired,
Our manufacturing engineer will provide training and mentorship to the CSUMB intern(s), including training in our basic occupational safety and health processes, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE). He will provide the familiarization and training of electronic assembly and testing operations, and he will work with the student to complete a student-directed project on site at our facility that complements their academic coursework at CSUMB.
