Opportunity Summary 

Student Ministry Intern: The student will work directly with middle and high-school-age students on a bi-weekly basis, providing mentorship and support. Additionally, the student will shadow the Director of Student Ministry during preparation times as well as on an as-needed basis for outreach throughout the week. Finally, the student will be responsible for reaching out to a small group of high school-age girls and their families, as well as having weekly check-ins with me to go over progress and receive support/ additional counseling.

Tasks:

Overseeing large-group community-building activities, facilitating small-group discussions, bi-weekly meetings with the ministry team to review weekly objectives and any additional needs, weekly check-ins with the supervisor to track progress/answer questions, program preparation and takedown, and individual outreach and mentoring with students and families throughout the week.

Training:

Initial orientation and meeting the student ministry team, ongoing mentoring and feedback from the Director of Student Ministry and myself, and weekly meetings with the team to prepare for the upcoming programs and discern what the group may need either at large or on an individual basis (i.e., one-on-one conversations, additional outreach throughout the week, mental health support, etc.)

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to interact with adolescents and their families in an appropriate, effective, and professional manner. The student will also gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies that go into setting up programs for a non-profit in a way that fully supports all applicable members of the community.
