The Youth Development Professional (YDP) Intern supports the implementation of high-quality youth programs that promote academic success, healthy lifestyles, and character & leadership development. Key Responsibilities

Assist in planning, organizing, and leading daily youth programs and activities.

Tasks:
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) Intern will support daily Club operations and assist in delivering high-quality youth programming. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist with planning, preparing, and facilitating structured programs and activities aligned with BGCA priority outcomes (Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Character & Leadership).
Provide homework help, tutoring, and academic support to youth members.
Supervise and actively engage youth during programs, recreation, transitions, and free time.
Support implementation of STEM, arts, sports, and leadership activities.
Build positive, supportive relationships with youth to encourage participation and retention.
Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive environment at all times.
Monitor behavior and apply positive behavior management strategies.
Track daily attendance and assist with program documentation.
Help prepare materials and set up/clean up activity spaces.
Assist with special events, family engagement activities, and field trips.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions.
Provide general support to Club staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Training:
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) Intern will receive comprehensive onboarding and ongoing training designed to build skills in youth development, program facilitation, and nonprofit operations.
Initial Onboarding Training
Orientation to Boys & Girls Clubs of America mission, values, and youth development model
Review of Club policies, procedures, and safety protocols
Child protection training and mandated reporting requirements
Emergency preparedness and incident reporting procedures
Introduction to behavior management strategies and trauma-informed practices
Program & Facilitation Training
Training on implementing academic enrichment, STEM, arts, recreation, and leadership programs
Guidance on lesson planning and activity design
Techniques for youth engagement and relationship building
Classroom and group management strategies
Cultural competency and inclusive programming practices
Operational & Professional Skills Development
Attendance tracking and data entry systems
Program outcome measurement and evaluation basics
Professional communication and teamwork skills
Shadowing experienced Youth Development Professionals
Ongoing mentorship and feedback sessions with a supervisor
