Student Graphic Design Assistant-C. ChangAt — CSUF - College of Business and Economics

Opportunity Summary 

Under the general direction of the graphic designer, the student graphic design assitant will create visually effective web and print communications and electronic newsletters, electronic invitations, website banners, elements of web pages, report covers and reports, brochures, booklets, flyers, posters, logomarks, postcards, printed invitations, certificates, promotional items, conference materials, advertisements, branded social media graphics, and presentations using a variety of software.
Print and Digital Design

  • Under supervision, participate in a broad range of projects; may independently perform duties with limited/defined scope.
    • Develop a variety of communication pieces for both print and digital media.
    • Perform basic graphic design with limited scope/complexity.
    • Compile illustrations, photos, and pictures for graphic design assignments.
    • Support creation of digital advertising such as social media ads.
    • Responsible for print and production duties

Digital Asset

  • Participating in photo shoots, learning to provide art-direction to photographers. Organization and archiving of design-related electronic files.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires foundation knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. Student must be skillful in the use of job-required software applications (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to develop and design materials according to defined requirements.
    • Preferred but not necessary to have skill sets in After Effects.

Learning Outcomes  

Student should be able to switch between different design softwares comfortably.
Gain experience of an in-house graphics department as a Jr. designer and production artist.
Gain the experience of working with copy writer, project manager, and art director
Able to follow brand style guide in a corporate setting.

Training  

I will give student chances to work within different design softwares, so that the student has a better understanding of when to use which software.
I will train the student to understand and utilize grid system to design various project so that the student begins to understand good and bad design practices.
I will walk through every step with the student to create effective visual communication projects and teach student how to effectively handle content.
I will brief and debrief and provide hands-on training and feedback.

Tasks/Duties  

Having the ability to receive a project, work with the art director, copywriter and project manager.
Having the ability to navigate the difference between digital and print projects and their different requirements.
Able to create effective visual communication designs for web and digital media, for web, emails, and social media.
Able to create print items such as promotional items, conference materials, ads, presentations, report covers, brochures, booklets, flyers, and poster.
