The Ignite Phyzio & Sports Performance Internship Program is designed to provide aspiring healthcare and performance professionals with exposure to a high-level sports rehabilitation environment. Interns will observe and assist clinicians working with athletes and active individuals recovering from injury and striving to return to peak performance.
Interns will gain hands-on experience with clinical decision-making, athlete assessment, exercise prescription, and return-to-sport principles while learning the Ignite Phyzio philosophy of data-driven rehabilitation, individualized programming, and high-performance patient care.
This internship is intended for individuals pursuing careers in physical therapy, athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, or related healthcare fields.
Tasks:
Core Responsibilities
Clinical Observation
Observe evaluations, follow-up treatment sessions, and performance training sessions.
Take structured notes on clinical reasoning, assessment strategies, and exercise progressions.
Gain exposure to rehabilitation strategies for common orthopedic and sports injuries.
Learning & Education
Participate in discussions with clinicians regarding assessment findings, treatment planning, and exercise prescription.
Review relevant research articles or clinical topics assigned by supervising clinicians.
Develop an understanding of the rehabilitation continuum from injury to return-to-sport.
Clinic Operations Exposure
Assist with basic clinic setup and breakdown for sessions when appropriate.
Observe workflow processes including patient intake, scheduling, and clinical documentation systems.
Learn about the operational aspects of a cash-based sports physical therapy clinic.
Athlete Performance Exposure
Observe strength and conditioning principles used in rehabilitation and return-to-sport programming.
Learn how objective data (force plates, dynamometry, etc.) informs clinical decision-making.
Gain familiarity with movement assessment and performance testing strategies.
Professional Development
Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and engagement throughout the internship.
Ask thoughtful questions and actively participate in discussions when appropriate.
Seek feedback from clinicians to improve clinical understanding and professional growth.
Training:
Interns are expected to come prepared each day, actively observe treatment sessions, take structured notes, and engage in clinical discussions when appropriate. Passive observation is not sufficient — engagement is required.

Interns are expected to communicate clearly and respectfully with clinicians, staff, and patients. This includes punctuality, appropriate attire, professional body language, and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.

Interns must demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn. This includes asking thoughtful questions, seeking feedback, reflecting on observations, and engaging with assigned readings or learning materials.
