The Art Show Intern is an integral part of The Frida’s mission to celebrate the arts. You will manage the end-to-end lifecycle of our quarterly rotating art shows, from the initial \\Call to Action\\ to the final facilitating of art sales and returns. Tasks:
1. Exhibition Planning & Outreach
Call to Action: Draft and distribute quarterly open calls for art via social media, email newsletters, and local community boards.
Submissions Management: Collect and organize digital submissions, ensuring all necessary artist information and image files are received.
2. Curation & Artist Relations
Rating & Selection: Assist in the initial screening of submissions and participate in the rating process based on theme and quality.
Approvals & Agreements: Send official approval notifications and manage the signing of artist agreements/contracts.
Communication with Artists: Respond and keep in contact with artists if they have any changes to details/pricing for their art
3. Installation & Logistics
Gallery Preparation: Create professional art tags (title, artist, medium, price) and printed materials for the lobby display.
Hanging Art: Physically assist in the layout and hanging of artwork in the lobby, ensuring proper alignment and safety.
De-installation: Dismantle shows at the end of the quarter and ensure the space is ready for the next rotation.
4. Sales & Artist Facilitation
Transaction Processing: Coordinate with theater staff to process art sales.
Sale Forms: Create forms with pricing/artist details for theater staff to help keep track of pieces sold
Communication: Inform artists immediately of any sales and maintain accurate records of sold vs. unsold inventory.
Art Facilitation: Coordinate pickup dates for unsold works and ensure artists are reunited with their pieces promptly.
Training:
General employee orientation, weekly one on ones, explanation of all tasks and job shadowing
Learning Outcome
Strong organizational skills and an \\eye\\ for visual curation.
Physical ability to use basic tools (levels, hammers) and handle artwork safely.
Excellent written communication for professional artist correspondence.
