Napa Wildlife Rescue summer internship program introduces students to the field of wildlife rehabilitation through hands-on experience at a wildlife rehabilitation facility that cares for songbirds, raptors, and mammals. Interns will learn species identification, immature versus adult behaviors, wild animal husbandry and how it differs from domestic animal husbandry, enclosure enrichment, medical triage and treatment for sick and injured animals and infant wildlife care.
By the end of the internship interns will have learned species identification, immature versus adult behaviors, wild animal husbandry and how it differs from domestic animal husbandry, enclosure enrichment, medical triage and treatment for sick and injured animals and infant wildlife care. They will have learned how to work as a team as well as individually, how to prioritize tasks and time management and ethical treatment of wildlife under temporary human care.
Every student is required to attend a 3 hour orientation prior to the internship start date. Interns will be trained by staff or experienced volunteers on the job.
Students will always be showed how to do tasks first, they will always be provided with proper PPE and supervised with any animal handling tasks.
