By the end of this opportunity, university students will have developed practical skills in classroom support, including facilitating small group instruction and reinforcing core academic concepts. They will gain experience in behavior management, student engagement, and differentiated support for diverse learners. Participants will strengthen their communication and collaboration skills by working closely with teachers and school staff. They will also deepen their understanding of child development and the social-emotional needs of elementary students. Additionally, students will reflect on their role in fostering an inclusive, respectful learning environment and build a foundation for future careers in education or child-centered professions.
Students will receive onboarding and ongoing training to ensure they are confident and effective in their roles. This includes an orientation to school policies, classroom procedures, and expectations for professionalism and confidentiality. Instructional training will cover strategies for supporting small group learning, reinforcing literacy and math skills, and assisting with differentiated instruction. Students will also be introduced to basic behavior management techniques, student engagement strategies, and age-appropriate communication practices. Additional guidance will be provided on supporting diverse learners and fostering an inclusive classroom environment. Throughout the experience, students will receive mentorship and feedback from classroom teachers and school leaders to support their growth and success.
