California Travel Association

Organization Description

California Travel Association (CalTravel) proactively protects and advances the interests and investments of California’s travel industry through advocacy, collaboration, and education. Through advocacy to the state Legislature, we address issues that directly and indirectly affect our industry—ensuring it continues to thrive.

Program Information

Students will do the following: 

-Help track state legislation relevant to the organization
-Assist in engaging with internal stakeholders to solicit feedback on how proposed legislation may impact organization
-Support grassroots efforts by coordinating stakeholder engagement (collecting logos for position letters)
-Draft and submit position letters
-Monitor and take notes during legislative hearings
-Prepare draft materials for internal meetings (agendas, presentations, etc.)

Skills needed: familiarity with the state legislature and legislative process OR a desire and willingness to become familiar; Ability or interest in reading and analyzing policy; Communicate effectively both in writing and in person; Able to juggle multiple priorities; Personable and resourceful

The position might be hybrid and allow for working from home, depending on the internship hours. There may also be days when we go to the Capitol for hearings or external stakeholder meetings.
