Secura Financial LLC is a Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm based in Southern California providing comprehensive wealth management, financial planning, and investment advisory services to individual and institutional clients. This internship offers a structured, hands-on learning experience within a working advisory practice, giving students direct exposure to client relationship management, portfolio analysis, financial planning, and the regulatory environment of a Schwab Advisor Services-custodied RIA.
Tasks:
Assist in preparing client financial plans and investment summary reports using industry planning software
Conduct securities research and market analysis to support advisor investment recommendations
Review and analyze structured product term sheets and investment proposals, summarizing key terms, risks, and potential returns
Support options strategy analysis, including reviewing covered call and protective put positions within client portfolios
Assist with portfolio performance reporting and account review preparation for client meetings
Research economic data, sector trends, and market commentary to contribute to client communications
Shadow advisor during client discovery and review meetings to observe relationship management and financial planning practices
Support development of client-facing materials including investment proposals, educational summaries, and presentation decks
Assist with compliance documentation and record-keeping in accordance with RIA regulatory requirements
Participate in firm projects related to technology integration, workflow automation, or business development initiatives
Training:
Week 1–2: Site orientation — firm overview, compliance protocols, software systems (Schwab Advisor Center, CRM, financial planning tools), and safety/emergency procedures
Week 3–4: Job shadowing of advisor client meetings and portfolio review sessions; introduction to the firm's investment philosophy and client service model
Ongoing: Weekly one-on-one mentorship meetings with supervising advisor to review assignments, provide feedback, and assess progress toward learning outcomes
Mid-semester: Formal progress review evaluating intern development across all learning outcome areas
Throughout: Assigned readings from industry resources (CFA Institute, Morningstar, Schwab), participation in professional development activities, and exposure to real client scenarios with appropriate privacy protocols observed
Final weeks: Culminating project — intern prepares and presents an investment research summary or financial planning analysis to the advisory team
