Organization Description

California State University, Stanislaus serves a diverse student body of more than 9,000 at two locations in the Central Valley — a beautiful 228-acre campus in Turlock and the Stockton Center, located in the city’s historic Magnolia District. Widely recognized for its dedicated faculty and high-quality academic programs, the University offers 43 majors, 41 minors and more than 100 areas of concentration, along with 15 master's degree programs, seven credential programs and a doctorate in educational leadership.

Program Information

Volunteer:  one unit/48 hours total, Spring 2026.only

 

Desired Qualifications:

Previous enrollment in Stan State public history courses (HIST 4005, 4006, or 4/5940).

 

Learning Opportunities and Duties:

Work with Dr. Cullison on service learning and community engagement components of her public history courses. Internship focus will be on Learning and Training Deliverables below: 

 

 

 

Health & Safety

For HIST 4005, Public History: Learn to edit and update multiple online, public-facing projects including various digital history walking tour entries on The Clio. Training Deliverables: minor edits on at least one entry and creation at least one basic entry with provided historical sources.

For HIST 4006, Oral History: Learn to use and manage various tools for project management scheduling and tracking including AdobeSign, 25Live, MS Office, and shared cloud space.  Learn to coordinate the logistics of student interviews by 1) lining up interviewees/narrators with students.  Training Deliverables:  1) oversee the registration process that is currently on Microsoft Forms and coordinating summary charts of participants and their available times and interview modality preferences. 2) Engage in outreach to individuals referred to us, using template emails and agreement forms I've created. Advanced deliverables:  Assist students in scheduling rooms for in person interviews, with equipment needs, and possibly attend recordings as needed.  Assist in promoting the products of the class by working with campus IT to integrate these interviews into the history department website.

 

For HIST 4940/5940 - History Internship – Learn to facilitate focus groups as well as prepare and record testimonial videos. Training Deliverable: Record videos with the former or current interns to give testimony to the internship/service learning experience with their internships and to post these videos on YouTube.  Advanced Deliverable:  Help evaluate the pedagogy and curriculum of the Canvas course through the coordination of a focus group discussion with former and planned interns..
