HBF MENTOR / COACHAt — Heavy Breathing Foundation
The Community Strength & Youth Program Intern will support Heavy Breathing Foundation staff in supervised strength-based mentorship and community programming for youth and young adults. Under direct supervision, the intern will assist with session preparation, participant engagement, exercise demonstration support, spotting and safety oversight, attendance tracking, light administrative tasks, and program logistics. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in coaching fundamentals, group facilitation, nonprofit program operations, professional communication, community outreach, and service to at-risk populations. As the intern demonstrates competence and professionalism, responsibilities may gradually increase within the intern’s approved scope and under staff supervision.
The student will develop foundational skills in coaching and cueing, spotting and safety awareness, group facilitation, trauma-informed and strengths-based communication, professional boundaries, participant engagement, nonprofit program support, documentation, and community-centered service. The student will also gain exposure to how strength training can be used as a structured tool for prevention, mentorship, resilience, and personal development.
The student will receive onboarding and site-specific training covering organizational mission, professionalism, confidentiality, boundaries, mandatory reporting expectations, participant interaction standards, equipment safety, spotting and cueing basics, incident reporting, and emergency procedures. The student will shadow staff before taking on direct support responsibilities and will receive ongoing coaching and feedback throughout the placement.
