Academic Tutor - At — Escondido Education COMPACT
This opportunity allows college students to serve as tutors for at‑risk youth who face academic challenges and socio‑economic barriers. Interns will provide one‑on‑one and small‑group academic support, assist with homework, reinforce foundational skills, and help students build confidence in their learning abilities. This role offers practical exposure to trauma‑informed and strength‑based approaches and is ideal for students pursuing careers in education, social work, counseling, or other related fields.
By the end of this opportunity, students will develop foundational tutoring and mentorship skills. Through consistent engagement, interns will develop mentorship, communication, and problem‑solving skills while gaining firsthand experience working with diverse youth populations. Interns will leave with a deeper understanding of educational inequities and the impact of supportive relationships on student success.
All required trainings are available to interested interns monthly during COMPACT staff meetings held on Mondays, or upon request of the site supervisor. Trainings may include Mandated Reporter Training, Trauma-Informed Care, Positive Youth Development, Cultural Awareness (including gangs in North County), Sexual Harassment Prevention, and program-specific orientation.
Students will be asked to complete COMPACT's volunteer application, which can be found on our site: https://www.educationcompact.org/volunteer-form-adults -- Upon screening of application, students selected to move forward in the application process will undergo an initial interview with the intern coordinator.
