Program Information

Definition
Under supervision, provides assistance and support services related to the enforcement of agricultural or weights and measures laws and agricultural pest control.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class assist agricultural and weights and measures staff in the performance of work to enforce
the provisions of the State agricultural and administrative codes. This class is distinguished from the Senior
Agricultural and Standards Program Aide in that incumbents in this class have no lead work responsibilities and
appointments are temporary and/or on a seasonal basis.
Examples of Duties, Knowledge, and Abilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assists with a specific agricultural or weights and measures program in order to prevent the introduction and
spread of harmful insects and weeds, animal pests, and plant diseases; or to ensure weights and measures laws
are upheld.
• Places, inspects, and maintains pest detection traps, including working with the public to obtain approval for
trap placement.
• Performs pest surveys.
• Destroys harmful weeds by digging, burning, or spraying with chemical herbicides.
• Assists with testing and sealing commercial scales, weights, measures and meters.
• Assists with inspecting and testing packaged commodities to ensure proper labeling practices are followed.
• Cleans, maintains, and organizes shop tools and hardware.
• Transports and issues equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Assists in keeping records and prepares reports.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:
• Basic record keeping techniques
• Principles and practices of customer service
Ability to:
• Learn basic insects and plants related to the area of assignment
• Read maps and plot trap locations on maps
• Follow verbal and written directions
• Make simple explanations of policy, procedure, and law to the general public
• Keep records and prepare reports
• Read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance
