Jr. Silversmith and Jewelry Professional InternAt — Caveman Gems
Intern will assist all staff across various departments primarily with silversmithing repairs, resizing, fabrication and design; sales; inventory control; display design; online merchandise marketing; and private jewelry event coordination.
Tasks:
Repair silver jewelry; resize rings; design new silver jewelry; fabricate custom silver jewelry for clientele; attend skill workshops at the local gem & mineral society to deepen knowledge and strengthen core skill sets; lead custom design consultations; organize high volume inventory; upload new inventory; learn CRM navigation and data tracking; set up and break down private gem events; shadow appraisal evaluations; advise and evaluate repair consultations, and assist the Chief Business Development Officer in administrative tasks such as, but not limited to: invoicing, pricing, consulting, and marketing.
Training:
- Intern will attend several skill set workshops with seasoned silversmiths with San Diego Gem & Mineral Society, Vista Gem & Mineral Society, & Culver City Gem & Mineral Society
- Intern may have the opportunity to shadow several silversmiths in the area and assist in complex repairs.
- Intern will have the opportunity to design custom pieces for high end clientele.
- Intern will have the opportunity to fabricate for high end clientele
- Intern will be trained how to create invoices, understand pricing, and manage a detailed CRM
- Intern will be trained how to pick out stones for a client and advise best course of action
- Intern will be trained how to take high quality inventory photos to showcase their creations
- Intern will understand how to manage a 20,000 stone inventory
- Intern will learn how to lead design consultations and see clients through stone purchasing, to design, to follow through, to deliver, close, and after care.
- Intern will be trained how to design a jewelry display to compliment and optimize and accentuate jewelry
- Intern will understand how to put together their own display and run their own table and/or booth
- Intern will be trained about online marketing such as social media as well as ads and SEO strategy
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to,
- have better understanding of everyday operations running a small business in the jewelry trade.
