ALZ Companions internshipAt — Alzheimer's San Diego
Gain direct-service experience with a person living with dementia (no hands-on care required), while also completing virtual learning activities and projects. This intership will require driving as part of its services hours.
Through this experience you will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; get to directly help a local family in need; help educate and spread awareness about Alzheimer’s disease; connect with other ALZ Companions interns; and potentially form a deep, special bond with an individual living with dementia.
Two training videos, each a little over an hour, and two quizzes (they take between 15-30 minutes to complete). The videos include Mandated Reporter training and a deep dive into the different types of elder abuse.
Students will spend approx. 2-4 hours per week in the homes of people living with dementia and their care partner for the direct-service component of the internship. Most interns/volunteers for this program are students between 16-22 and we have never had a safety concern in the 12 years this program has been in operation. This has been overwhelmingly a popular, meaningful, rewarding, and safe placement for student volunteers.
