Opportunity Summary 

Sol Treasures is seeking a CSUMB Service Learning Intern to assist with our Summer Filmmaking & Storytelling Workshop in King City.

This is a hands-on opportunity for students interested in film, media, education, storytelling, and community arts engagement. Interns will:

  • set up classes,
  • support participants one-on-one, and
  • gain practical experience in filming, editing, storytelling, and creative collaboration.

Interns work alongside teaching artists and participants while helping individuals create film projects in a supportive environment.

This internship is ideal for students interested in filmmaking, digital media, education, communications, or community arts programming. Interns will have opportunities to both learn and teach technical and creative skills throughout the workshop.

Schedule:

  • Monday–Thursday
  • June 22 through July 16
  • 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
  • at Sol Treasures, King City
  • Some days may require availability from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM.
  • Scheduling flexibility is possible with advance notice.

Students should be able to complete all 25 required service learning hours through this placement.

Opportunity Training 

Training will be provided directly through hands-on participation with the workshop filmmaker/instructor in an “as-you-go” learning environment. Interns will meet with the instructor prior to the start of the workshop to become familiar with the class structure, equipment, and overall goals of the program. Throughout the workshop, interns will gain practical experience in filmmaking, editing, storytelling, class coordination, and participant support while actively assisting during class sessions. Responsibilities include helping ensure materials and equipment are prepared and available, assisting participants with projects and communication, helping distribute information to students, and supporting the overall flow of the class. Interns will also assist with email communication and general organization related to the workshop. This position is ideal for someone who is collaborative, adaptable, interested in media arts and storytelling, and willing to actively help others in a creative community-centered environment.

Opportunity Supervision

Students will be supported through ongoing communication and direct supervision from both the workshop instructor and Sol Treasures staff. Interns will meet with the instructor prior to the start of the workshop and will receive guidance throughout the program in a hands-on, collaborative environment. Supervision will include regular check-ins, assistance with responsibilities, and support while working with participants, equipment, and class materials. Interns will be able to ask questions, receive feedback, and build confidence as they gain experience in filmmaking, editing, storytelling, and classroom support. Sol Treasures staff will also help coordinate scheduling, communication, and overall program expectations to ensure interns feel supported and successful throughout the placement.
