Organization Description

The Sacramento Observer is an African-American-owned weekly newspaper in Sacramento, California. It serves the Black community throughout the Sacramento Metropolitan Area. The newspaper was founded in 1962 at a time when African American voices were still largely absent from the mainstream media in the region.

Program Information

The Sacramento Observer has been running a successful internship program for five years now, and their interns have won 1st place at California News Publishers Association (CNPA) awards. Students would produce articles to be featured on the Sacramento Observers website and in print.

Students would need writing, reporting and visual skills. Interns will go out on assignment within the Sacramento community.
