Opportunity Summary

Sol Treasures is seeking a CSUMB Service Learning student to serve as an Assistant to the Film Submissions Coordinator for the first annual The Pinnacles Film Festival (TPFF) in South Monterey County. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in film festival operations, filmmaker relations, submissions management, and arts administration while helping build a brand-new regional film festival.

The student will assist with FilmFreeway submissions, filmmaker communication, organization of film materials, scheduling, outreach, and festival coordination. Students will work alongside the Film Submissions Coordinator, Sol Treasures staff, the Arts Council for Monterey County, local civic and arts leaders, volunteers, and filmmakers throughout the process.

This opportunity is ideal for students interested in filmmaking, film festivals, arts management, communications, event coordination, or nonprofit arts work. Students will gain real-world experience, professional connections, and the opportunity to help shape an exciting new cultural event for South Monterey County.

Requirements:

  • Background Check (e.g. fingerprinting/livescan, driving record)
  • Computer Literacy
  • Driver's License
  • Must be 18 or older
Opportunity Training

Students will receive hands-on training in the film submissions, review, and awards process of a working film festival. Interns will work closely with the TPFF Film Submissions Coordinator and festival leadership to learn the full lifecycle of film festival programming — from receiving film submissions through FilmFreeway to organizing films for jury review and festival screening. Students will help track submissions, communicate with filmmakers, assist with acceptance and rejection notifications, organize screening categories and film blocks, and help package films into curated groupings to be screened together during the festival. Interns will also gain experience in professional communication, organization, scheduling, and festival operations while learning how independent film festivals are coordinated behind the scenes in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Opportunity Supervision

Students will receive ongoing training, supervision, and support directly from the TPFF Film Submissions Coordinator and Sol Treasures festival leadership throughout the internship. Training will include hands-on instruction in FilmFreeway management, filmmaker communication, submission tracking, jury coordination, screening organization, and the overall film festival programming and awards process. Interns will participate in regular check-ins to review assignments, discuss deadlines, answer questions, and receive guidance throughout the festival preparation process. Because the internship is highly collaborative and hands-on, students will receive real-time feedback and mentorship while actively participating in festival operations. Support will also include assistance with scheduling, organization, problem-solving, and professional communication to help students build confidence and gain a stronger understanding of how film festival operations function behind the scenes.
