Opportunity Summary 

The student will be a fellow with the Conservation Technology Lab

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

As a fellow, you will not be a replacement of or substitute for any SDZWA employee. Conservation Science staff mentors will help you develop and implement an independent project in the Conservation Technology Lab aligned with your current skills and academic program, developing your technical and analytical abilities as well as your experience in the growing field of conservation technology. You be working on creating a burrowing owl object detector model that discriminates between adults and juvenile owls, as well as detecting other species local to the area such as crows, coyotes and ground squirrels. You will also be evaluating interoperator reliability among labelers that generated the training dataset. The skills/tools used for this project will include Python, YOLO, and a variety of statistical analyses
