Toddler Summer InternshipAt — Orange County Head Start, Inc.
Effectively plan and implement learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of infants and toddlers
including improving the readiness of children for preschool based on individual patterns of development that address all domains
and areas required by the Head Start Performance Standards.
Form partnerships with parents through ongoing communication and daily interaction at greeting and departure times.
Work with parents to develop individual lesson plans, goals and objectives for each child’s development in the domains required by
the Head Start Performance Standards.
Instruct and interact with children utilizing age appropriate adult child interactions as approved by the agency including one-on-one,
small group, and large group interactions.
Responsible for meeting the individual needs of all children (diapering, toileting, accommodating physical requirements), in a
respectful, considerate and supportive manner. Provide care and supervision for children including maintaining safety, assisting with
toileting and self-care routines.
Train parents, Teacher Assistants, and volunteers regarding classroom procedures, appropriate interactions with children and
specific tasks.
Prepare and set-up for meals and snacks as required.
Tasks:
Student will learn, and be able to complete the following:
- daily attendance, communication with parents for reason of absence, and follow up with parent of any needed resources.
- acclimate into an infant and toddler classroom, providing a safe and positive environment for the children and parents.
- work with the teachers to build classroom management and building social emotional and self-help skills within the children
Training:
Student will work in the classroom paired with an Early Head Start teacher, shadowing and receiving role modeling as it applies to the task. Student will work in the school office supporting daily office duties typically assigned to Family Service Worker or Center Director.
Learning Outcome:
- Identify administrative duties outside of the classroom (ie attendance documentation, orientation and children's file review)
- Build the knowledge for Early Head Start program 0-3 year olds
- Build knowledge of Licensing requirements for early childhood education program/Title 22.
