Marketing and Communications InternAt — Naqmayam Communications LLC
This internship is designed to provide hands on experience in marketing, public relations, community engagement, and project management within a Native women owned communications firm. Throughout the internship, you will contribute to real world projects that support Native communities, Tribal Nations, educational institutions, and Indigenous organizations. Throughout your internship, you will contribute to three interconnected projects: the ICANBE Campaign, a statewide initiative celebrating Native American alumni success stories; the AIAN Career Navigator Network, which connects AIAN students with employment and career resources; and the I Can Champions Program, which places Native community Champions in speaking opportunities that promote college access and student success.
Students will gain hands-on experience in marketing, public relations, community outreach, project coordination, and culturally responsive communications within a Native women-owned communications firm. By the end of the opportunity, students will be able to apply marketing and communications concepts to real-world projects that support Native communities, Tribal Nations, educational institutions, and Indigenous organizations. Students will strengthen their research and database development skills by identifying Native American alumni, compiling career and employment resources, organizing contact lists, verifying information, and maintaining detailed tracking documents. They will also develop outreach and relationship-building skills through communication with Tribal Nations, Native organizations, tribal education departments, colleges, alumni networks, employers, and community partners. Through the internship, students will gain experience drafting outreach emails, recruitment messages, social media content, promotional materials, participant profiles, success stories, and event summaries. They will also learn how to support campaign planning, photo shoot preparation, scheduling, event logistics, and documentation for community-based projects. In addition, students will build professional skills in organization, communication, time management, confidentiality, teamwork, and accountability. They will participate in mentoring meetings, reflect on their learning, and create a professional portfolio that demonstrates their experience in marketing, communications, public relations, campaign support, and Indigenous community engagement.
